Ordinary people

People on the colonies usually have one of the following types of shifts:

   1) Traditional (8-5, M-F) - This is rare and usually applies to "indoor" professions.

   1) Extended (6-6, M-Sat) - This is a heavy production schedule, people might be able to alternate Saturdays off after they gained some experience at their company.

   3) Half shifts (6-noon, seven days a week) - This is for labor- intensive jobs. There are four half shifts, this allows management to have 7/24 coverage.

   4) Full shifts (6a-6p, M, T, W & every other Sunday or Th, F, Sat & every other Sunday) - This shift is designed for skilled laborers on sensitive projects. It allows for 7/24 operation of any project

These people are trying to make their life on Mars as normal as possible. They go to the Malls, they go out for drinks and try not to think about the harsh environment that is just inches from them at times... Generally, most people live in an area that has a relatively low crime rate. Unfortunately, people in areas with high crime rates cannot really escape them, so their lives are made even harder to live.

Police

Police generally work Full shifts (Administrative officers work traditional shifts). Police have had to add anti-terrorist duties to their already heavy workload. Also, they have had to become more prepared for the techniques required to prosecute organized crime rings. Fortunately, most areas experience less crime than similar areas on Earth. However, the Combat Zones are even worse as there is no real place for desperadoes to run and the police outside of Combat Zones have more time to keep the excess crime out of their area.

Researcher

Life as a researcher on Mars is not all that different from research on Earth. The two main differences are the better pay and the abundance of work. Most researchers work almost constantly until their project is over than do almost no work for at least a month. Researchers live in constant fear of being extracted while they also have to work hard to prove their findings in time to satisfy their employers.

Government Official

Government officials hold considerable power in most Martian colonies. They control the future of most colonies. this power is derived from their ability to pass or restrict building within their colonies. The down side to this is that they may experience short lives if another official or Corp decides to put an end to their career.

Corp

The average Corp is a middle-manager responsible for a limited area of their corporation. They work to make themselves and their allies look good while making sure their company succeeds. Few Corps rise above this level, but those that do are given much latitude to accomplish their goals. Often times, they may even employ their own mercenaries in order to perform deniable work. Ultimately, powerful corps must see everyone as their enemies. Managers above them see them as a threat, Corps in other companies see them as dangerous competition and managers below them see them as obstacles to their success. Meanwhile, people not involved in this constant business struggle see these types of Corps as "the Man" and will work to hinder them on general principal.

Military

Military duty on Mars is the most demanding. It requires constant vigilance as the deadly environment of Mars is often only one mistake away from killing you. Meanwhile, other military forces are working out your strengths and weaknesses. Finally, cults, mercenaries, and all manner of crazies are ready to take out anyone who stands in their way and when that way involves danger to a colony, that means you.

Nomad

Nomad society has not disappeared with the lack of atmosphere. Instead the lack of atmosphere has encouraged a booming Nomad society. One which is free from random attacks. Their ability to move from colony to colony even allows them certain freedom not allowed other inhabitants of Mars.
